Call of the Wild: The Angler

Here is a list of all the Call of the Wild: The Angler known issues and bugs, revealed by the player community and the developers, as of updated on September 9, 2022. If you are facing an issue other than the following ones, please let us know in the comments down below and we will try to help you out.

STABILITY & PERFORMANCE

  • A variety of stability-related issues are currently being addressed.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: We’re aware of and tracking the different crashes and launch issues players are currently encountering. We’ve already addressed some in Hotfix 1.01 and more will be tackled in our next update based on the frequency of occurrence.

UI

  • The distance number on the tension gauge clips through the UI’s boundary when over 100.
  • Measurements were inadvertently updated to 2 decimal places on the tension gauge.
    • Dev Team Notes: It will be reverted to 1 decimal place in a future patch.
  • Players’ level relative to their achievement tracking is offset by 1.
    • Dev Team Notes: To put it simply, you gotta be level 11 to unlock the Level 10 “License to Gill” achievement and level 51 to unlock the Level 50 “Big Fish Small Pond” achievement. A fix will be rolled out shortly.
  • Map icons don’t perfectly move in sync when panning over the reserve map.
  • Mission waypoints may not always reappear if the game was closed in the middle of a mission.
  • Visiting and interacting with a watch tower after having already visited a location or point of interest can cause the “undiscovered” icons to reappear.
  • The handbook displays a limited amount of compatible baits and lures for each fish species, instead of showing the primary ones.
  • In rare circumstances, UI pop-ups may remain stuck in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  • Players will find themselves unable to select a rod from the quick menu if the first and second slots in the rod assembler are unused.
  • When unsupported characters are used in players’ names, they appear blank in-game (on the map and during gameplay).
  • Switching the multiplayer matchmaking option off doesn’t save upon exiting the game and currently needs to be switched back off after relaunching the game.
  • Players attempting to launch the game with hardware or software below minimum specs are not receiving appropriate warning messages for all hardware types.

VISUAL

  • Water’s appearance is being worked on to improve clarity and reflections.
  • Water can currently clip through the bottom of boats, rather than be occluded as intended.
  • Specific waterbody sections have been found to not seamlessly blend with the environment.
  • The water’s appearance can sometimes differ from its actual physical movement.
  • Float movement currently doesn’t match wave movement as accurately as desired.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: We’ve heard the community’s feedback regarding the float’s visibility and movements. We’ve already brought improvements to the bobber in Hotfix 1.01 and we’ll continue to do so in upcoming updates.
  • The animation speed while reeling in during the luring phase doesn’t match the 5-speed options.
  • A selection of fish movement animations isn’t playing back as intended.
  • On rare occasions, some objects may appear to float, clip, or not properly align with the ground as you explore the open world.
  • On rare occasions, some distant parts of the terrain may not render as expected.
  • In multiplayer, when another player ghosts to avoid obstructive or griefing behaviors, the skin shader may appear incorrectly.
  • Changes to some graphics and video settings during gameplay may not apply.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: Restarting the game will make sure all your settings are correctly applied.
  • AMD graphics card users may notice corruption on water reflections in specific circumstances (small patches of black squares).
  • When watching a watch tower sequence, you may see a secondary and unintentional camera fade at the end.
  • Players are currently able to sell clothing to appear “naked”.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: Surely the community can be trusted with this information and we won’t see a rise in underwear-wearing anglers in Golden Ridge Reserve…

MULTIPLAYER

  • We’re aware of the difficulties players are experiencing when trying to join their friends online.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: Right now the game isn’t informing you when the friend you’re trying to join is on an already full server (12 out of 12 slots are full).
    • While we work on a fix, you can attempt to work around the issue by quitting out to the main menu, re-entering gameplay, and then trying to get your friends to join you again.
    • This is an issue that will take a bit of time to resolve. We’ll continue to update the community on our progress on this as soon as we have more to share.
  • In multiplayer, other players’ avatars may occasionally be missing an item of clothing or two.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: This issue will resolve itself after a bit of time. Until we release a fix, please turn around or cover your eyes to respect your partner’s sudden lack of clothes!
  • In multiplayer, when other players fast-travel, their avatar might not despawn immediately from their previous location as intended.

GAMEPLAY

  • Rods can sometimes appear straighter than they should be under high tension levels.
  • An unwanted camera swaying was introduced in 1.01.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: The community was quick to raise the issue and it’ll be swiftly corrected.
  • On rare occasions, you may need to tap the strike button more than once for it to register.
  • The default fishing position on boats is incorrect.

AUDIO

  • On rare occasions, the vehicle you’re in (boat or 4×4) may lose audio.
    • Dev Team’s Notes: While we’re working on a fix, know that exiting and re-entering the vehicle typically resolves the issue.
  • Audio from other players may sound louder than intended when in proximity.

These are just some of the issues that players are facing in Call of the Wild: The Angler right now. Keep in mind that as of today, the game has just launched so there are bound to be certain problems. You can also join the Steam forums to report problems.
