- Build around heroes early; stronger hero checks reduce failed branches and wasted cycles.
- For combat consistency, a phaser-focused setup is the most reliable baseline through early and mid sectors.
- Crew count should be controlled carefully: overstaffing increases food and housing pressure and can slow expansion.
- Morale penalties can be managed if food and deuterium production stays stable.
- You usually do not need excess Engineering Offices once upgrades are online.
- Deck 7 and Deck 8 expansions are powerful but energy-expensive, so plan them around warp core and reactor capacity.
Room and hero check scaling
Success rates improve with upgrades, and these thresholds are important for route safety.
- Most room checks follow this progression: Level 1 = 40%, Level 2 = 50%, Level 3 = 65%.

Final Notes
Before sectors with strict cycle limits or stacked away-team checks, pre-stage heroes and room upgrades first. That preparation usually gives the biggest consistency gain across long campaign paths.
