Currently, the Gym is the only way for you to earn Pokecoins for free in Pokemon GO. Gyms are physical locations found within the World that are controlled by either Team Valor, Mystic or Valor. As mentioned earlier, you will need to find a Gym controlled by an oppsoing team. After doing so, you can expect a 6v6 battle to take place inside the Gym. If the Pokemon found inside are not already weakened, you will need to fight them thrice to knock them out and take control of the gym. While battling, other team members from either side can join in and heal the Pokemon present making the process significantly shorter or faster depending on who has more support.

What to do After the Gym is Captured?

Well, at this point, you should now think about strategically stocking your new Gym up with Pokemon that can put up a fight. The smartest idea would be to put up characters that generally have high HP and defense stats. Here are some Pokemon that you should put in the Gym:

  • Blissey
  • Slaking
  • Snorlax
  • Rhyperior

All these Pokemon put up a heck of a fight while also being quite tanky in nature. After you’ve selected your Pokemon and put them in the Gym, they start passively earning Pokecoins. The longer the time a Pokemon stays in the Gym without being knocked out, the more you will earn.

You can only earn a maximum of 50 Pokecoins per day. So, in essence, you can only get 50 coins from a Gym at any particular point. After your Pokemon has been knocked out, you lose your passive income. So, putting stronger Pokemon in the Gym is an absolute necessity.

While 50 Pokecoins may not seem like a lot, it certainly is better than nothing. As mentioned earlier, you will need to put in a lot more time as a free to play player to compete in the big leagues. However, it is entirely possible especially if you have good tanky Pokemon on your hands. If you have some other tips for the game, let us know in the comments section down below!
