Elden Ring features tons of NPCs scattered across the Lands Between. Oftentimes, you will find a merchant that you can trade with while traveling the vast open world of the game. It is always nice to see a friendly face after being met with hostility and dealing with the grueling enemies in Elden Ring. However, the game allows you to kill all the NPCs that you come across.
Now, why you would do that? That is something that you have to ask yourself. However, many players were curious about what happens if you kill the merchant Kale in Elden Ring. Since he is one of the few – if not only – merchants that is named NPC. With that said, let’s dive right in and answer this burning question.
Elden Ring: What Happens if You Kill Merchant Kale?
Players will first meet the merchant Kale when they bein their adventure. After you activate the First Grace – where White Faced Varre is located, you will see a small church in the distance. Make your way there and you will be greeted by Kale. He will be sitting in the corner waiting for you to speak with him.

Kale is harmless and will sell you useful items throughout your journey, such as the Crafting Kit. However, if you still decide to kill him, worry not because he won’t put up much of a fight. Upon attacking him, he will turn hostile but can be killed easily. Once you kill him, he will drop:
- 500 Runes
- Kalé’s Bell Bearing
- Finger Snap gesture
Apart from this loot, you do not get anything exclusive. If you use the Bell Bearing at the Roundtable Hold, you can buy his items from the Twin Maiden Husks’ shop. However, we do not recommend that as you need to talk to Kale to get a special gesture. This gesture will allow you to go on the questline for Blaidd, and eventually get his armor and weapon.
Killing Kale will restrict you from getting the gesture, hence you won’t be able to proceed one of the most important side quests in Elden Ring.
That’s everything you need to know about what happens if you kill the merchant Kale in Elden Ring. We suggest that you do not kill him as you will miss some important side quests later in the game. Let us know if you killed him or let him live in your playthrough of Elden Ring?
