With blow after blow by the hands of Microsoft, Sony has finally decided to answer and we have the complete information on it for your reading pleasure! As it turns out, Sony has announced that it will be buying the original developer of Halo and Destiny. How will this move change Destiny 2 and Bungie games? Stick around to find out!
While this move from Sony has presented many big narratives to the general public, let’s see how this move actually pans out. Let’s dive right into how this acquisition move from Sony came to be.
Why is Sony Buying Bungie?
This announcement came after Microsoft announced that intends to buy Activision Blizzard in a deal worth $68.7 Billion. The statement Microsoft gave for this move was:
“We’re investing deeply in world-class content, community, and the cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that puts players and creators first and makes gaming safe, inclusive, and accessible to all,”
In the battle for popularity with gamers, Sony’s PlayStation 5 is widely seen as having the lead over Microsoft’s fourth-gen Xbox models. After this deal, shares of the maker of PlayStation plummeted by nearly 13%.
While it seems all good on paper, Sony might be trading blows against Microsoft for something bigger to come.
Statement from Sony
After announcing the move, Sony has released the following statement for the general public.
“In SIE, we have found a partner who unconditionally supports us in all we are and who wants to accelerate our vision to create generation-spanning entertainment, all while preserving the creative independence that beats in Bungie’s heart,”
In response to this, a tweet from Bungie also came forth:
What Will Change?
Bungie has announced that it will continue to create and publish games independently for multiple platforms and it will sit alongside the company’s PlayStation Studios developers. While Bungie is announcing that nothing much will change, fans are rather skeptical at this bold acquisition move by Sony.
Bungie has rejected any idea of becoming Playstation exclusive to the public in the statement:
“No. We want the worlds we are creating to extend to anywhere people play games. We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community,”
