If you are faint of heart and easily rage quit games then leave now for we are going to be discussing here Mohg, Lord of Blood boss fight in Elden Ring. This guy is a menace to many players and the way his fight goes you are bound to die a lot learning the ropes of his fighting patterns. We have also ranked the hardest Elden Ring bosses in the game.
Elden Ring: How to Beat the Mohg, Lord of Blood
Mohg, Lord of blood has some hard-hitting attacks, though these can be easily outmaneuvered as they are very telegraphed the real problem with this boss is his incessant use of Bleed or Hemorrhage inducing attacks. These attacks take away huge chunks of your health and you end up fixated on managing your health trough out the fight rather than keeping the appropriate offense going against him.
We will be telling you all that you can do to mitigate this fight along with how you can find this creep as he is a well-hidden optional boss.
Finding Mohg
There are basically two ways of getting to this boss.
The first and the earliest way is through White-Faced Varre. This weirdo is the first NPC you come across after starting your tarnished journey. He is the same guy who makes fun of your maiden-less existence. If you swallow your anger and don’t kill him then there is a whole quest attached to him that leads you to Mohg.

Once you have progressed his questline to the point he gives you the Pureblood Knight’s Medal you can use it to get to Mohgwyn’s palace where Mohg, Lord of Blood resides. Keep in mind this area is for higher-level characters so be prepared for tough encounters and should be kept aside for later visit.
The second way is going through the above seen blood-drenched portal gate that leads you to Mohgwyn’s palace. If you have killed the condescending fool Varre then this is your alternate route. This portal is located on the Mountaintops of the Giants region. There is a whole elaborate way of getting to this region for which we will spare the details. Once in the region go to the location marked on the map below to find this portal.
Preperation for Mohg, Lord of Blood
Mohg, Lord of the Blood is a Bleed / Hemorrhage-focused boss then you should be extra prepared for the bleed procs that result in that bar filling up. For saving yourself from this purpose it’s advised that you get yourself the Purifying Crystal Tear for your Flask of Wondrous Physick. This flask item is specifically for Mohg boss fight as the description of the item states “The resulting concoction purifies the curse from Mohg, Lord of Blood’s terrifying rite of blood.” This negates the blood-curse-rings effect or attack he has.
You can get it by killing Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger at the Second Church of Marika. Map location is marked below.

The next thing you can find to give you an edge in the fight is Mohg’s Shackle which can be used similar to Margit’s Shackle during the boss fight to hold him to the ground for a short while. Can be found on a body in Subterranean Shunning Grounds under Lyndell just before the Lyndell Catacombs bonfire at the bottom of the pipe/water area. Use it before he goes to his second phase.
Fighting Mohg, Lord of Blood
Phase one of the fight with Mohg is pretty easy in terms of reacting to his basic attacks. He has these huge overhead swing attacks that you can completely dodge by rolling into the attack. You can use Mohg’s Shackle in this phase, twice only, to hold him in place and deliver some punishment of your own.
He opens a portal of sorts above him to grab a fist full of blood to throw at you that deal bleed meter build up. Dodge into it to avoid it. He also rains down blood from this portal attack that burns the ground. This fire does bleed meter build-up damage so be careful in managing this meter during this fight.
He does this claw attack that bursts into flames that you need to roll back from its damage reach, he follows it up with a spear charge attack that you can roll right or into to dodge. Keep the attacking in the windows you are given and dodge away from his attacks, keep it up until you reach the halfway point of his health.
This is the beginning of his transition into phase two. At this point, you will have three red rings curse around you and he will start chanting mumbo jumbo that will initiate three bleed procs in succession, taking away insane amounts of your health each time. So either use HP flasks quickly to restore health all three times or use the Mixed Physick Flask with Purifying Crystal Tear that will negate all of these hits and you can continue hitting him without worry.

Once this is done he will sprout wings of his own to make things even more intense. He floats up in the air to do a plunge attack that triggers a bleed explosion, so dodge away from that. Also throws blood while he floating so get ready for that. He follows it up with a fly-down swing attack that you can dodge into to let him pass through above you.
The bleed fire attacks will be more frequent here so tread carefully throughout the arena to sidestep any fires on the ground. He will have pretty much the same attack pattern from phase one so react accordingly, with the exception of flying moves.
Just keep moving to avoid the fires on the ground and go for the assault strategically and you will be done with him in no time.
