How to Unlock Player vs Player (PvP) in Elden Ring

Playing online is one of the most important parts of the Souls games. The same can be said about the latest release, Elden Ring. Once you complete the game, PvP (Player vs Player) becomes the major focus for all players. However, it isn’t unlocked since the start. That is why we will take a look at how to unlock PvP in Elden Ring.

Previously, we talked about how you can play the game in co-op mode. However, if you do not want to play with your friends, you can always duel other players in classic 1-on-1 Souls-like fashion. With that said, let’s dive right in and find out how to unlock PvP in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring: How to Unlock PvP

Since the game just launched, we would like to say that this guide will delve a little into spoiler territory. With that out of the way, let’s get started.

To unlock PvP, you will need two main items. The first one, – Duelist’s Furled Finger – can be obtained pretty early on. However, the second item – Recusant Finger – involves completing a side quest and beating a boss.

Duelist’s Furled Finger

As the name suggests, you can use this item to put your red sign on the ground. Other players can interact with your sign to summon you for a competitive fight. Alongside this item, you will also get the Small Red Effigy. Using that item will send your red sign to nearby summoning pools. This allows you to do some light PvP while questing in the nearby area. Plus, it increases your chance of getting summoned for a duel.

To get this item, you will want to go to the Warmaster’s Shack located at the East of Stormhill Shack. From there, head North and follow the road going through between the trees. Keep riding because wolves will attack you in this area but you will want to avoid them.

Eventually, you’ll be stopped by a giant wooden gate with a corpse in front of it. Loot the body and you’ll get the Duelist’s Furled Finger and the Small Red Effigy. If you go to this area early on, you will be invaded and forced to fight. Don’t worry, even if you die, you can get the item without any issues.

Recusant Finger

How to Unlock PvP in Elden Ring

The Recusant Finger is a reusable item that allows you to invade other players’ worlds. Keep in mind that it randomly selects players in your summoning range. When invading, your main goal is to kill the host that you are invading. Once that is done, you will be sent back to your world to celebrate.

There is another item similar to this called the Festering Bloody Finger but it is a consumable item that has limited uses. To get the Recusant Finger, head on over to the Scenic Isle and head East. Eventually, you’ll come across a small tower. An NPC will be standing there asking for help. Accept the quest and she’ll tell you to go Northwest to Boilprawn Shack.

Another NPC will be standing there. You can kill him and retrieve the necklace and give it back to the first NPC. She’ll then ask you to join her covenant. Join it and they will send you to do some PvE action. That is where you can get the Recusant Finger.

After speaking with the lady, she will ask you for a few things but to avoid spoilers, we will not disclose them here. Her side-quest is quite easy and straightforward. Complete it and eventually, you’ll get the Recusant Finger.

That’s everything you need to know about PvP in Elden Ring and how you can unlock it. Let us know if you managed to get the items and unlock PvP.
