miHoYo announced alternate outfits for various characters. While they are optional in most regions, players have to use the alternate outfits in the Chinese region. This was done due to the Chinese Government’s guidelines on sexual content, with characters like Jean and Rosaria losing their backless outfits and showing less skin.
Genshin Impact: How to Unlock Alternate Outfits
These alternate outfits have been the talk of the town in the Genshin Impact community. Players are highly against this as it ruins the original vision of the creator. However, others agree that it is required in order to comply with the Chinese Government’s guidelines. Since China is a massive market for Genshin, miHoYo are forced to take action.
The characters that are getting an alternate outfit are Mona, Jean, Amber and Rosaria. Most players feel that this is only the beginning. Once these characters are censored, miHoYo will focus on others and ensure that every character meets the guidelines. This might even affect future character designs as well.
While the outfits are available starting today, they were already shown in marketing materials in the previous weeks. On top of that, miHoYo have confirmed that – regardless of the region – these characters will wear their alternate outfits in cutscenes and when they appear in the overworld.
As for how you can get these outfits, worry not because every player will get an in-game mail. If you do not have the characters, the outfits will still be available to redeem. They will be applied to them as soon as you unlock the characters. However, in other regions, you can still use the normal outfits when you are playing as the characters.
