PUBG has absolutely dominated mobile gaming for three years. Tencent, the publishers of the game, have tried to cement their lead by releasing multiple iterations of the PUBG franchise. One such version is PUBG Lite, a free-to-play version of the Battle Royale that has been speced down for lower-end devices. Sadly, it is going to be going down on the 29th of April with new downloads being shut down later today.
The publishers of the game, Krafton, have not provided us with any actual details of why the game is going down. However, you can read more about the reason they have cited for the game’s imminent closure is down below.
PUBG Lite Shut Down Statement
PUBG Lite launched in beta in January 2019. The game then met tons of success later throughout the year as it slowly paved its way across Europe in October. The game then ditched its in-game currency system and went free-to-play. However, it seems like all efforts were in vain as the game is now shutting down. Here’s what the developers had to say about the game:
We are deeply grateful for the passion and support from the astounding number of PUBG LITE fans that have been with us. During the strenuous of the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that PUBG LITE was able to provide our fans a fun way to stay safe.
Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close service after much deliberation and the time has come for our journey to end. We regretfully inform you that service of PUBG LITE is scheduled to end on April 29th, 2021.Krafton
Ultimately, this marks the end of an era. PUBG LITE was a fan-favorite, especially for those who could not run the original game on their computers. We’re hoping that the developers now spend more time optimizing the PC version of PUBG so no one misses out on the fun.
