Slime Rancher 2 added many new slime types in addition to the already present ones from the previous generation taking that tally up to 17 different slime types. Every slime has its pros and cons. Let us look at how we can rank them based on what they bring to the table.

Below we have mentioned the criteria for every Tier.

Criteria

  • S-Tier: Every slime in this category might not be easy to find but they are worth all the effort because the return is higher than the effort.
  • A-Tier: Every slime in this category is easy to find, a plort that gets decent value and not a lot of effort is needed to house them.
  • B-Tier: These slimes are on the borderline of being entirely unless and being highly valuable so they lie in the neutral zone.
  • C-Tier: These slimes are of not much use because the hassle it takes to find them, keep them, and feed them is much higher than the return they give.

Now, let’s take a deeper look at how and why we have ranked these slimes this way:

S-Tier

The S-tier consists of the following slimes: Flutter Slimes, Hunter Slime, Crystal Slime, Gold Slimes, Lucky Slimes

Flutter Slime

Flutter Slime - Slime Tier List
Flutter Slime

Tier: S

Rarity: Uncommon

Plort Value: 22

S-Tier is not for anyone who is not ready to put in the extra effort so we have got a rather tough one on our hands because a flutter slime might not be the easiest to keep but they tend to bring a lot to the table in return for the extra care you give them.

Flutter Slimes’s plort sell for 22 Newbucks which is a decent price but the main thing that sets them apart is when they are fed their favorite Moondew Nectar, they will start releasing soothing sounds that will calm down all the other slimes in the area, saving you from a lot of trouble.

Hunter Slime

Hunter Slime - Slime Tier List
Hunter Slime

Tier: S

Rarity: Rare

Plort Value: 60

Hunter Slimes or as we should call them Nature’s Predator are a Feline Type slime that live in the wild and are the best hunters out there. A good characteristic of a good hunter is hiding in plain sight and Hunter Slimes do that pretty well as they become one with their environment with only the eyes giving them away.

Hunter Slimes might not be as easy to keep but if they are well fed and kept properly, their plort is one of the highest selling and expensive plorts in the game which makes them worth all the effort required to house them.

A word of advice is that you should their corral away from food because when they are hungry, or agitated, they will find food and can even get out of control. You can read more about how to catch Hunter Slime here.

Crystal Slime

Crystal Slime - Slime Tier List
Crystal Slime

Tier: S

Rarity: Uncommon

Plort Value: 60

Crystal Slimes are among one of the hardest to keep in Slime Rancher 2 because they are constantly trying to hurt you with all of the spikes that grow on the ground around them. They have high plort value which makes them a good addition to the S-Tier.

If you are ready to put in all the efforts then you might just buy music box that will keep the agitation to the all time low and before you enter their corral, you should put water on the crystals that have grown so they can vanish and not hurt you.

Gold Slime

Gold Slime - Slime Tier List
Gold Slime

Tier: S

Rarity: Rare

Plort Value: 300

If you think there is no such thing as a walking gold mine then you surely haven’t played Slime Rancher 2 because there is living breathing gold-pooping slime that will give you the highest-valued gold in the game.

Gold Slimes might not be the easiest to catch but that is the thing, with such expensive plort, you don’t need a lot of them. You just need a few to fill those pockets of yours. If you are looking for a Gold Slime then look for glitter because that is what it produces and that is one thing that will give away it’s location.

Lucky Slime

Lucky Slime - Slime Tier List
Lucky Slime

Tier: S

Rarity: Rare

Plort Value: None

A slime that doesn’t even produce plort is in the S-Tier? how is that even possible? Well you see, you don’t need plort when the slime directly gives you money, every time you feed it. Yes. this true. Lucky Slimes will shoot a cloud that will land and will have Newbuck in it.

Lucky Slimes might be hard to find and their lifespan might also be very short but within that short lifespan they can give you a decent amount of Newbuck for feeding them their favorite food – Meat.

A-Tier

The A-tier consists of the following slimes: Pink Slime, Honey Slime, Puddle Slime, Rock Slimes

Pink Slime

Pink Slime - Slime Tier List
Pink Slime

Tier: A

Rarity: Common

Plort Value: 10 Newbucks

The reason for the most common slime being in such a high tier is that on its own this slime is not worth much but as you start experimenting with Largos, you will find that this is one of the most useful slimes in the game.

Pink Slimes are omnivores so you can combine them with whatever slime has the most challenging diet such as Tabby Slimes because once they are combined, the Largos will have combined characteristics of both the slimes.

On top of all that, it is one of the most commonly found Slimes, is not hostile, and is happy to be around a rancher.

Honey Slime

Honey Slime - Slime Tier List
Honey Slime

Tier: A

Rarity: Uncommon

Plort Value: 45

Honey Slimes are one of the most useful slimes in the game and there are endless reasons for it. The first is that they are super friendly and don’t require a lot of special attention other than you have to keep them alone because they can get targeted by other slimes.

The second reason is that they are easy to find and are in abundance all over the Start Strand Island. If you gather lots of Honey Slimes, you will be able to make a good buck off them. Just make sure they are kept separately.

Puddle Slime

Puddle Slime - Slime Tier List
Puddle Slime

Tier: A

Rarity: Uncommon

Plort Value: 45

The simplest and the easiest way to a steady income are puddle slimes. They are commonly found, and only require a water source such as a pond or river to be kept alive. They don’t need extra care and their plort is a relatively good sell as compared to a lot of other slimes.

Puddle Slimes are a one-time investment and they can produce up to 3 batches of plorts worth 45 Newbuck per plort, if they are kept in a group of 4. A group will only give you 2 because of the shyness that puddle plort has which restricts it to give plorts if more than 3 slimes are around.

What’s best is that you can buy a pond, fill it with Puddle Slimes, and call it a day because after that you will only need to collect the plorts and sell them in the market.

Rock Slime

Rock Slime - Slime Tier List
Rock Slime

Tier: A

Rarity: Common

Plort Value: 22

You might be wondering why is such a common slime so high up in the ranks. If you read the criteria for the tier list then you will understand that the A-Tier is all about low effort and high yields and by definition, the Rock Slime is exactly that.

Rock Slimes are one of the most commonly found Slimes in Slime Rancher 2 and are easy to keep, plort sells for a decent value, and thier diet is easy to collect which is veggies.

B-Tier

The B-tier consists of the following slimes: Phosphor Slimes, Angler Slimes, Boom Slimes, Fire Slime

Phosphor Slime

Phosphor Slime - Slime Tier List
Phosphor Slime

Tier: B

Rarity: Common

Plort Value: 22

You might be surprised why is slime like the Phosphor slime so low in the tier list and that is because the effort required to keep them from evaporating is more than the output you get from them. Phosphor slime and their plort will evaporate when exposed to sunlight.

You will either have to keep them in a dark place or their corral should be covered with Solar Shields. They can only be found at night due to obvious reasons which also makes it harder to catch finally it is not in the last tier because it does give pretty interesting Largos when combined.

Angler Slime

Angler Slime - Slime Tier List
Angler Slime

Tier: B

Rarity: Uncommon

Plort Value: 20

Angler Slimes are not very exciting but they are not completely useless either. They live in the water and can be used in a lot of scientific experiments to make equipment for deep sea diving. Their plort is also not dirt cheap which makes them borderline useless and a perfect fit for this category.

Boom Slime

Boom Slime - Slime Tier List
Boom Slime

Tier: B

Rarity: Rare

Plort Value: 45

If you hear a loud explosion then you must know that there is only one slime responsible for this mess and that slime is none other than our explosive fellow – Boom Slime. Bloom Slimes explode more often then we think and while they don’t get affected by it, everyone else surely does.

An explosion by the boom slime can harm you and also other nearby slimes. If you want to keep them you will have to take certain mesaures such a music or water supply to keep them from exploding.

It is better to make largos out of them. The only thing that keeps them from the bottom-most tier is their good plort value.

Fire Slime

Fire Slime - Slime Tier List
Fire Slime

Tier: B

Rarity: Rare

Plort Value: 45

All lot of you might not agree with the Fire Slime being so low in the tier list but I think that even though their plort is 45 Newbucks but they are not worth all of the effort they require. First of all, any time you need to feed them, you will have to turn it into ash first.

secondly, you can’t go in their trough without getting burnt and if you put water on them, they will cool down along with it will go all of the precious plorts. Unless you have a plort collector, things are going to be rough with Fire Slimes.

C-Tier

The C-tier consists of the following slimes: Tabby Slime, Cotton Slime, Batty Slime, Ring Tail Slime

Tabby Slime

Tabby Slime - Slime Tier List
Tabby Slime

Tier: C

Rarity: Common

Plort Value: 22

This is one of the most problematic slimes in the game and not only is it hard to keep in the corals because it can jump so high, but you have also to put a net and high walls just to keep it. The main reason for this is that it steals food.

Tabby Slimes have a habit of stealing food and when they are not hungry or they don’t like the food, they will just keep it in front of them and wait while another slime comes and consumes it, increasing the chances of Largos.

Cotton Slime

Cotton Slime - Slime Tier List
Cotton Slime

Tier: C

Rarity: Common

Plort Value: 15

Once again we have a useless and not-so-worth it slime on our hands because cotton slimes might be easy to find and feed by they are tiny little trouble-makers. They have a relatively high jump and tend to run away if not paid attention to.

Their plort doesn’t bring enough value and the largos are just fine.

Batty Slime

Batty Slimes - Slime Tier List
Batty Slime

Tier: C

Rarity: Rare

Plort Value: 20

Batty Slimes are trouble-makers and there is a lot to not like about them. They live in the dark means that we will need to put something extra to keep them safe from Sun because although they might not die from the Sun they will get agitated over time which is not something that we want.

Second is their hunger problem which grows stronger at night and if they are not fed well, there is a good chance that they might start consuming the plorts that the other slimes leave and we will have to deal with unwanted Largos.

Ring Tail Slime

Ring Tail Slime - Slime Tier List
Ring Tail Slime

Tier: C

Rarity: Rare

Plort Value: 24

If there was slime that had trouble written all over it then this would definetly be it. Ring Tail slimes are nothing but an abomination. They like to steal stuff, they like to eat until they are full, and the worst part is, they don’t even produce plort in return unless they are completely full.

This makes them quite uesless and they also turn to stone when are exposed to sunlight which is the cherry on the top. They can cosume anything and everything that comes their way so they should be kept a close watch on, if you do decide to keep them.
