Like any From Software game, the community went bonkers with Elden Ring as well. With some game-breaking builds making their way to the internet and people exploiting some powerful weapons and items in the game. All this is fine to look at but it can take away the challenge these games are so popular for.
A new Elden Ring update has tried to fix these exploitative and weakened actions and items all the while adding new quests and NPC. This is a substantial update that players of the game should be aware of and we have all the important details mentioned of Elden Ring update 1.03 in this article. And if you are wondering what happens if you kill the merchants in Elden Ring than check this article out.
Elden Ring Update 1.03 – What’s New?
This new update will hurt many players who have been using the items getting buffed, all the while purists Souls-like fans will rejoice. Either way, things are changed considerably and new things are added to an already jam-packed adventure. We have tried to test out some of the changes and our results are mentioned in the article. So follow along the post to get educated.
Nerfs and Buffs – General
Hoarfrost Stomp – Ash of War: The damage is decreased and the time to use it has also been expanded. The damage difference in some testing showed a massive downgrade (e.g. Before update 500 DMG, after update 169 DMG). The new casting time will keep the player in a longer recovery animation after the attack has been executed, to hinder your next immediate action. This is to discourage spamming this attack, though this Ash of War is still viable with its affinity to Frost buildup.
Bloody Slash – Ash of War: This powerful bleed-inducing skill is nerfed to inflict even more self-damage than before after the update. This just broadens the risk to reward ratio of the skill and discourages spamming as previously the self-harm was minor.
Sword of Night and Flame: This single weapon has been the talk of the Blightown since launch due to its unique weapon skill and the absurd damage it does. The damage of this sword’s skills is decreased in the update, for both the beam and fire. In testing, the beam was outputting 700 DMG before the update and after the update, it was 250 DMG. For the fire skill, before the update 600 DMG after the update 360 DMG. Even the FP cost has been raised from (19,23) to (26,32).
Mimic Tear – Spirit Summon: This previously essentially duplicated your character in a fight with all of your updates and gear, a very game-breaking summon. The update decreased the damage of the spirit and changed its behavior. In testing the behavior change is negligible while the damage has certainly been lowered but not to a useless level and this spirit is still quite powerful.
Cracked Pot Items: The damage of offensive cracked pot items is increased. In testing for Fire Pot, the results before the update were 88 DMG and after the update, it is 146 DMG.
Mount Healing: Previously the Raisin items were very ineffective at healing Torrent, this has been buffed to give more HP to your mount.
Shields: Though not specifically mentioned but the new update has revamped the effectiveness of shields. We have noticed that heavy-enemy attacks are easier to block and the stamina isn’t immediately depleted.
Many weapons with bugged scaling from certain attributes and upgrading have also been fixed though it’s not mentioned specifically.
Nerfs and Buffs – Spells
- Reduced FP consumption and increased the damage of the following sorceries: Glintstone Cometshard/ Comet/ Night Comet.
- Increased the damage of the following sorceries: Gravity Well/ Collapsing Stars/ Crystal Barrage. In testing the Crystal barrage was useless against even low-level enemies and after the update, it does pack quite a punch now and should be utilized more often. For Gravity Well the change isn’t that substantial.
- Decreased FP consumption of the following sorceries: Star Shower/ Rock Blaster/ Gavel of Haima/ Founding Rain of Stars/ Stars of Ruin/Greatblade Phalanx/Magic Downpour/ Loretta’s Greatbow/ Loretta’s Mastery/ Carian Greatsword/ Carian Piercer/ Shard Spiral.
- We tested Loretta’s Greatbow, one of my favorite spells, from 32 FP consumption to 28 now after the update.
Quality of Life Features
NPC Marker: It is now easier to visit already discovered merchants and NPCs in the open world as the map will automatically include a dedicated marker for their location. Perfect for keeping track of quest giving NPCs.
Quests: Added new quest phases for the following NPCs: Diallos/ Nepheli Loux/ Kenneth Haight/ Gatekeeper Gostoc. Visit these NPCs again after the update to progress their storyline.
New NPC: A new NPC is added in the Jarburg area in Liurnia named Jar-Bairn. Don’t forget to visit this area again and talk to him.
Smithing Stone: The drop rate of these upgrade items has been increased from certain enemies. From our testing, lower-level enemies are dropping these more often. And these are added to some early game shops as well.
